Philippines - ASO to begin in 2019

Analogue switch-off is set to begin in 2019 in the region of the capital city Manila.

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is expected to release ite rules and regulations (IRR) for digital switchover by the end of November. Soon thereafter, it plans to release the timetable for analogue switch-off that will begin in 2019.

The timetable will include capital spending for networks, channel planning, frequency allocation, as well as the steps that broadcasters must undertake during digital switchover.

According to the draft IRR, broadcasters are required to simulcast their services for one year following the adoption of the regulations. Broadcasters can provide services in either standard- or high-definition.

The DTT platform will use the ISDB-T standard.
