Thailand - Demand expected to be high for mobile DTT receivers

Demand for mobile DTT receivers is expected to be high and help household switch to digital television.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has received a large number of requests to approve the sale of mobile DTT devices. Nearly as many mobile DTT receivers are seeking approval as are DTT set-top boxes. All devices that will receive the DTT signal must receive approval from the NBTC.

Mobile DTT devices include tablets, smartphones and built-in television screens for cars. However, these devices do not qualify for the DTT subsidy coupon programme. Approximately 90% of mobile DTT devices on the market are from Samart I-Mobile.

The DTT platform uses the DVB-T2 standard for portable indoor / urban reception.
